Dehydration from vomiting is also inevitable and comes with undesirable consequences.
- Flushing Out Poison: In general, doctors advise against inducing vomiting to release poisonous substances that have been ingested out of the body. This is because while vomiting, they come up through the digestive tract and could cause harmful burns to the mouth, throat and lungs besides increasing the amount of poison your body absorbs. - After Having Too Much Alcohol to Drink: One of the after effects of drinking a lot of alcohol is vomiting. But this doesn’t mean that you should force yourself to vomit after heavy drinking. - Relieving Morning Sickness: When you are pregnant and suffering from symptoms of morning sickness, it could be a bit tempting to relieve nausea by inducing vomiting. - Wash your hands and ensure that your nails are short so that they do not scratch your throat
- Sit or kneel in front of a bucket or before the toilet and ease any pressure around your abdomen
- Insert the index finger to the back section of the throat to trigger a gag reflex
- Once you feel like you are just about to throw up, get the finger out of your mouth and vomit into the bucket or toilet
- Clean your hands up
- If that doesn’t work out with the first instance, try it once more but if it’s persistent call a doctor to seek advice.
There are certain things you mustn’t do to induce vomiting as they may be potentially dangerous. These include taking emetics, using salt water and overeating. Although some website promote them, doctors and medical professionals do not also recommend consuming raw egg white, milk of magnesia or taking mustard as they are unreliable and ineffective in inducing vomiting.
